BIG on Bloor Debrief

Hi Blogworld

This past weekend (July 20-21) I had the privilege of representing our blog at the BIG on Bloor street festival. I met so many wonderful people. There were so many talented  kids that sopped by the booth to paint and draw with me. It truly was a pleasure getting to know each and everyone of you. Thank you for participating. Also thank you to Pulp for building such great pavilions and thank you to Open Streets for including us in their brilliant selection of activities. I am looking forward to future events. I would very much like to share pictures of the event with you.

BIG on Bloor Festival 2013 - LogoWe have some very exciting news to share. Nivå6 will be setting up an art journaling workshop at the Card-Yard pavilion during the BIG on Bloor festival.

BIG stands for the Bloor Improvement Group which is a dynamic volunteer coalition in Toronto, dedicated to advancing the economic, physical, cultural and social life of Bloor Street by creating opportunities and events that improve and celebrate the area. They are the main organizers of the festival.

The Card-Yard pavilion is organized by PULP, Open Streets and Architecture for Humanity Toronto. Thank you to all of the participants for their hard work and for inviting Nivå6 to join the party!

The festival will take place:

Saturday, July 20, 1–9 pm

Nivå6 will be located at the CARD-YARD pavilion which is located inside the tennis courts at the South-West corner of Bloor St and Dufferin.

Come join us, the activities are suited for all ages and skill levels. Art journaling is a fun and a worth while exercise for everyone. Nivå6 will be giving out new journaling prompts every 30 minutes and participants can chose which medium they want to use. You can draw something for the first journal prompt, write a story for the second, and take a picture for the third. How you chose to participate is completely up to you.

Hope to see you all there.

Hello blog world. I hope March was a creatively productive month for you all. For me it has proven to be very interesting and fun. Social media was a big focus for me this past month. This upcoming month is all about Nivå6 project. Project 4 has been posted for a while and I have not given it the focus it needs up till now. Project 3 (which is a running project) needs attention as well.

Updates on Personal Projects

01 Journey on Colourful Waters

This project is such a nice de-stressor  I am really taking my time with it.

03 Goldcrock

I have been brainstorming/sketching a bit for this project. I have little to no experience with drawing and creating superheroes so I am really having fun with this one.

07 PULP: Paper Art Party

I had been talking to a few people about coming up with a paper art installation proposal for PULP as I was not in a position time wise to do it on my own. Besides working on light projects like this tends to be the most fun with a group of people. Unfortunately most of the people were not in a position to commit to the project so I decided to focus my energy elsewhere. I will still be attending the party and you should as well. It will not disappoint.

09 Social Media Craze.

I have had so much fun with this. It has really taken up a huge chunk of my time getting me to be very active, especially with taking pictures.

Twitter: TheGoldieK

– I am using Twitter as a social media connector of sorts. Anything that is related to any of my social media activities gets posted on Twitter. You can check out what I am up to on a more frequent basis there.

Instagram: TheGoldieK

– Instagram has really pushed me to get out there and re-discover my city. I am really enjoying this platform. I have actively been posting pictures for two weeks and I have been getting good feed back. I have just above 200 followers and I have found so many amazing photographers and instagramers who inspire me. Here are what I have posted so far. Some of them are taken from the Duck Duck Goose and One Angry Swan and  the Feeding the Birds series.

If you check me out on Instagram let me know. Its always nice to hear from “familiar” people

-I am relatively new to this platform and I have yet to really put it to use the way it is meant to be used. But from what I see it is truly a powerful platform for networking. Looking forward to get into it. Find me there as well 🙂

Photo-walk Feeding the Birds

Over the past week I have been attending the first and perhaps annual Toronto Urban Photography Festival (TUPF). The festival has been great so far. Plenty of FREE workshops, talks, walks, and exhibitions.

My background with photography: I studied the basics of photography theory in school. I even got a chance to learn how to develop and print my own black and white film. Something I highly recommend if you are really interested in photography. I also studied the history of photography as part of my undergraduate degree. Supper fun stuff… makes you really think about what you see.

Recently I bought myself a nice new camera, yes the one I have been drooling over for almost a year. The TUPF events really gave me a good reason to take the camera for a few nice spins around the city. The fact that spring is just around the corner is also a huge factor as the weather is finally a bit milder. I will, over the next few weeks or so, upload some of the pictures I have taken during the past few days. Would love to hear what your thoughts are. Which picture do you like best and why? And as usual, if this series inspires you to be creative in anyway, I encourage you to share your work with us.
